Ashley Monroe has released the official video for “Dreaming,” the latest chapter in the visual companion to her 2026 album Dear Nashville. Directed by Becky Fluke, the video is the sixth installment in Monroe’s plan to bring all eight songs from the concept album to the screen. The project, which Monroe surprise-released March 27, explores her complicated relationship with Nashville after nearly 25 years of building her career in Music City.
“‘Dreaming’ is kinda like my country version of ‘Bitch, Don’t Kill My Vibe’ to Nashville,” Monroe said. “I wake up every day with a song in my heart, and I never even let myself imagine a world where I don’t get to keep dreaming. Let me stay in honky-tonk La La Land forever. Maybe it’s a lie, but I do love a little delusion.” The song, written by Monroe and Luke Laird, reflects the tension between pursuing an idealized vision and confronting reality.
Dear Nashville contains eight tracks, all co-written by Monroe and Laird, who also co-produced the project. The album grew from Monroe’s “I Hate Nashville,” which became the starting point for a larger collection addressing both her affection for Nashville’s music community and her frustrations with the industry. Monroe previously described the record as a letter to the city, while Laird said their conversations centered on their shared love of country music, songwriting and the people who drew them to Nashville.
The visual series began with “I Hate Nashville,” filmed at Nashville’s Station Inn, where Monroe staged two sold-out album-release performances. Subsequent videos have accompanied “Gettin’ Out Of Hand,” “What Are We?,” “Steal” and “Haunted,” with “Steal” incorporating reflections on Monroe’s career and relationships with artists including Jack White and the late John Prine. The remaining chapters will complete the visual treatment of the album.
