More than two decades after the release of her career-defining debut, Gretchen Wilson is giving Here for the Party a new life through an all-star duets album featuring some of country music’s biggest names. The project is expected to arrive as a tribute to an album that helped define her career, while introducing its songs to a new generation of country music listeners.
Wilson revealed that she is re-recording the 2004 album in its entirety, pairing each track with a guest artist. Among the performers confirmed or expected to appear on the project are Ella Langley, Cody Johnson, Tanya Tucker, Miranda Lambert, Travis Tritt and Ashley McBryde. Wilson said the idea emerged as she looked for a meaningful way to celebrate the enduring impact of the record that launched her into country music stardom.
Interest in the project has grown as Wilson has recently shared the stage with several of the participating artists. During CMA Fest earlier this month, she surprised fans by performing “Here for the Party” alongside rising country star Ella Langley, who is also expected to appear on the album. The performance highlighted the connection between Wilson’s generation of country artists and a new wave of performers influenced by her music.
The original Here for the Party became one of the genre’s defining releases of the 2000s, reaching No. 1 on the country albums chart and producing hits including “Redneck Woman,” “Here for the Party” and “When I Think About Cheatin’.” Wilson has indicated that each song will be reimagined as a collaboration, with Cody Johnson joining her on “When I Think About Cheatin’” and Tanya Tucker contributing to a new version of “Redneck Woman.”
Although a release date has not been announced, Wilson said recording sessions are well underway through her independent label, Redneck Records.
