Lee Greenwood will co-headline the Countdown 250 Ball, a black-tie celebration scheduled for July 3 at the Washington Hilton in Washington, D.C., as part of festivities leading into the nation’s 250th birthday. Organizers Countdown 250 and the Operation Renewed Hope Foundation said the event will serve as a centerpiece of Independence Day weekend, bringing together thousands of guests for live entertainment, tributes and a midnight countdown into the semiquincentennial year.

Greenwood, whose signature song “God Bless the U.S.A.” has become synonymous with patriotic celebrations, will share top billing with fellow entertainer Tony Orlando. Both artists are among the first recipients announced for the event’s All-American Icon Awards, which recognize individuals whose achievements have helped shape American culture. Additional honorees include former Olympic wrestler Jordan Burroughs, entertainer Bob Anderson and businessman Mike Moyer, while All-American Hero Award recipients include former Sen. Elizabeth Dole, Capt. Luis Avila, Claudia Avila and retired Lt. Col. Deborah Snyder.

Event organizers said the evening will feature multiple stages, immersive exhibits, culinary experiences and the symbolic “1,000 Bells of Freedom” ceremony at midnight. Proceeds will benefit Operation Renewed Hope Foundation, which supports housing and assistance programs for veterans and military families. Public nominations and voting for additional honorees remain open.

The gala is expected to coincide with the broader Great American State Fair activities taking place on the National Mall during the nation’s yearlong America 250 celebration. Organizers describe the ball as a once-in-a-generation gathering designed to commemorate the anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence and honor Americans who have distinguished themselves through service and achievement.
