Shinedown has officially crossed into the country music landscape, scoring its very first appearance on a Billboard country chart after nearly 25 years of success on rock formats. The Florida-based quartet debuted at No. 54 on the Country Airplay chart with their single “Searchlight,” a track taken from their eighth studio album titled EI8HT. According to tracking data from Luminate, the crossover milestone was propelled by accumulation of 980,000 radio audience impressions during its tracking week.

The achievement extends the reach of a song that has already become one of the band’s most notable recent releases. Earlier this year, “Searchlight” topped Billboard’s Mainstream Rock Airplay chart, giving Shinedown a record-extending 22nd No. 1 on the ranking while also reaching the summit of Mediabase’s Active Rock chart.

To establish the song’s new direction, frontman Brent Smith re-entered the studio to alter his vocal delivery, incorporating classic country influences. Written by Smith, Eric Bass and Dave Bassett, “Searchlight” incorporates acoustic instrumentation, pedal steel guitar and country-inspired elements.

Shinedown originally introduced the song to the public during a live performance at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville, Tennessee, where country star Carrie Underwood presented the band to the stage. The group filmed the track’s accompanying music video, directed by Andrew Donoho, in Nashville shortly following that performance to showcase each member playing the roots-inspired acoustic instruments.  .
