Alabama Shakes have made a striking comeback with their latest track, “American Dream,” offering an early look at their long-awaited third studio album.

The song centers on Brittany Howard’s commanding vocals as she reflects on modern-day struggles and societal tension. The lyrics take aim at the shifting reality of the American Dream, weaving in themes of politics, personal rights, and economic pressure. Howard said in a statement: “It’s a snapshot of what we’re living through in 2026. I look around and wonder how we got to a place where there’s so much strain and so little support. I mean, it shouldn’t be impossible to take off work so you can bring your child to the doctor — that’s actually insane. My hope is that one day people will hear this song and say, ‘Yeah, shit was crazy back then, but we made it through.’”

The release follows “Another Life,” which arrived in 2025 and marked the band’s first new music in over a decade, earning strong praise and climbing up the charts. Together, the songs signal a new chapter for the Grammy-winning trio—Howard, Heath Fogg, and Zac Cockrell—as they prepare to unveil their next full-length project, their first since 2015’s Sound & Color.

Alongside the new music, Alabama Shakes are set to return to the stage with an extensive tour. The group will kick off a North American run before heading overseas for summer dates across the UK and Europe, then circle back for additional shows in the U.S. and Canada through early fall.
